Dave hosted a panel at Seybold today. I wished I was there! Quite interesting stuff on Weblogs being a new form of journalism. I like that idea. I think it is all about credibility of sources and I must say, that weblogs are not a very credible source.

In the panel they asked who´d done war time journalism and I have, back in the early nineties, in the Gulf War. We did not have weblogs then, but we typed our stuff into an IRC channel. It was much faster than scanning sites. CNN took a while to discover the IRC channel, but when they did, the Web was born.

Back then, they had to learn the hard way: We made up stuff and CNN actually carried it as news. This still happens and CNN still employs the same strategy: First they report the "rumors", then they double check them and if they are gone from the next loop, you know it was a hoax. Rarely they set the record straight. However, most such things become memories and later facts in the minds of the viewers. - Discuss

I switched the default view of my Weblog to News Items. Let us see how it goes. After adapting the Template, it seems to be all right. Maybe more later. One drawback is, that I have to reenter the topics of today´s page. - Discuss
