Comdex

Chauvinism again: News.com calls Comdex the "world´s biggest technology trade show". Hmm. It fits into the Las Vegas Hilton, for Christ sake. The entire Las Vegas Hilton could be fit into Hall 1 of CeBIT in Hannover, Germany, with room to spare. And CeBIT´s got 23 halls! Apparently, the News.com reporters never went to any other trade show and their minds can not imagine anything being bigger than what America has to offer. To be fair, CeBIT is not a "technology trade show" so that shows that you only have to pick your niche right. - Discuss

German Government

If the German Chancellor Gerhard Schröder fails in the high risk gamble he played today, the terrorists will have achieved a partial success in destabelizing a western democracy. The Chancellor has called for a vote of no confidence in conjunction with the approval for military involvement in the war against terror. German news analysts agree that this is a high risk game as a lot of the representatives of the governmental coalition are opposed to military action. The Green Party, which is an essential part of that coalition, for example, has its roots in the peace movement of the early 80s. In theory, the representatives are only accountable against their conscience. By connecting the issues, the Chancellor has effectively forced them to decide wether they want to continue the government or be against military action. I don´t think this is very sensible for a democracy. - Discuss
