First Day, afternoon

This event is just too big. Macweek estimates CeBIT being 5 times as big as Comdex. Since I¥ve never been to Comdex, I can¥t say.

Taiwan is a big presence on CeBIT. Steve Jobs was right: Apple set the standard with the colorful designs. Last year, the Taiwanese went balistic with color products and you can still find a lot of ugly translucent color gadgets:

But they seem to come to their senses.

Hall 8 is dedicated to digital photography. One booth compares the consumer products:

Sinar makes professional digital cameras. Their software, CaptureShop, has been developed by my friend Peter. The software is really cool. Those guys were demoing:

The show has lots of interesting product. For example, Epson shows real big printers:

Seiko Instruments has lable printers that connect to an iMac:

Although Apple pulled out of CeBIT this year, there are Macs aplenty everywhere. At the 3dfx booth, a G4 competes with Pentiums for games:

There are other Mac products as well. Old friend Uwe Falck, a well known Mac man, shows of RagTime, a business publishing package by his company B & E Software:

Meanwhile our booth is visited by people from all over the world. This is Iyer from India talking with my father. Iyer¥s company offers programming services for embedded systems:

My brother Achim is doing booth duty:

The halls are packed with people today. An estimated 100.000 visitors today. Add to that the about 40.000 employees at the booths:
