I think I always was a fan of Terry Pratchett´s, even before he invented the Discworld. His unique views are best expressed in the words: "is the world flat?"
It is indeed. And if you don´t take care you walk over its edge and fall off. Curiously, that rarely happens to the Discworld inhabitants since the great Rincewind tried and failed.
In this, the umteenth episode of the Discworld series, we learn that time is an illusion caused by the passing of history - an unintentional tribute to Douglas Adams, perhaps? History has gaps in it and, only occasionally, is blown to bits and needs to be reassembled by foreign monks, resulting in its being messed up pretty badly. And Armageddon is really a social event marking the mere passing of a Frontier by the society it happens to. There even is a band playing, the Fab Five.
It is also about teaching and learning and still manages to stay funny.
